Origins & History

The Robert Wood Singers Inc. (known locally as "The Singers"), was founded in 1968, in the city of Port Colborne, Ontario, by the Port Colborne Operatic Society, with Robert Wood as music director. By 1970, the initial member ship of 18 had grown to 65, which has been maintained since that time. Originally consisting of Port Colborne residents, the membership now includes men and women from many parts of the Niagara Peninsula. In 2000, Robert (Bob) Wood retired from the directorship of the choir and the baton was taken over by Deanna Schaus. In the summer of 2008, Deanna stepped down and Bob once again assumed the position of Music Director, with Ron Gorham taking the position of Assistant Director.
